Private Commissions
For over five centuries, Pembarthy artisans have transformed plain brass sheets into intricate works of sacred art using the timeless techniques of repoussé and chasing.
Originating during the golden era of the Kakatiya dynasty, the metalcraft of Pembarthy was born out of a necessity to adorn monumental temple architecture and royal chariots. The mastery of shaping rigid metal into flowing, divine narratives became a highly guarded skill.
Today, amidst an era of rapid automation, these traditional techniques remain completely untouched by machinery within our atelier. Our artisans continue to rely on ancestral knowledge, raw fire, and physical endurance. Every piece we create is a testament to why the human touch can never be replicated.
The arduous process of creating raised, three-dimensional forms by carefully and forcefully hammering the reverse side of a raw brass or copper sheet resting on a bed of warm pitch.
Once the form is raised, the metal is turned over. Using hundreds of handcrafted steel chisels, the artisan refines the intricate surface details from the front, bringing mythological narratives to life.

No automated machinery. Only the traditional implements of our ancestors.

Used to forcefully stretch and manipulate the annealed brass during initial shaping.

A heavy base filled with warm resin, providing secure yet yielding support during repoussé.

Employed for gentle, non-marring structural alignments and broad curve formation.

Hundreds of uniquely shaped, hand-forged chisels used for micro-detailing and chasing.

Blunt-edged instruments used to outline the initial design onto the raw metal surface.

Used to hand-rub the metal to a high polish, compressing the surface for brilliant luster.
Mass produced.
Uniform.
Perfectly sterile.
Devoid of soul or history.
Individual. Unique.
Every single hammer strike is visible.
A permanent record of human endeavor.
True luxury cannot be rushed. Every hour accounted for reflects intensive human craftsmanship, physical endurance, and unwavering focus rather than automated assembly.

Before any piece is permitted to leave our atelier or bear the Pembarthy GI designation, it must pass a rigorous assessment by our Master Artisans.
Pembarthy's survival depends on the transfer of knowledge. Inside our atelier, younger artisans sit beside the masters, learning the rhythm of the hammer and the patience required for chasing. We are not just preserving objects; we are preserving a living human tradition for the world to inherit.
